Students in the Visual Arts Academy learn the concepts of two- and three-dimensional art. Students who graduate from the Selwyn Fine Arts Academy will have developed the skills necessary to audition at the most competitive music programs in the country-including the one in our own backyard at the University of North Texas. Music Academy students play in the Piano Lab, learn advanced music theory and musical notation, and gain significant solo and ensemble performance experience. Students in the Music Academy receive private, individual instruction in their instrument of choice from adjunct instructors who are degreed musicians and specialists in their instruments. Greenway Park (Creative Arts and Science).Students may participate in these activities at their home school (transportation is not provided). *Athletic programs and marching band are not offered on Visual & Performing Arts school sites. The program provides flexible, skill-based groupings in the visual and performing arts to address the needs of individual students. Students continuing to the middle and high school program will receive seven consecutive years of rigorous, intensive instruction in the visual and performing arts at a pre-professional level.
Students receive weekly classes in each of the four arts disciplines, as well as Arts integrated instruction in their grade-based classroom. As an integral part of a strong academic program, the Arts are approached through Arts education, integration and exposure.Īt the elementary level, the Arts are used as a catalyst for building a collaborative, creative, Arts-infused culture and community. Students receive specialized studies in dance, music, theatre arts, and visual arts. The focus of the Visual and Performing Arts program is to develop a student’s talents and passion for the arts.
